How to prevent and treat stretch marks

Stretch marks! They are some linear lesions caused by skin breakdown by dehydration, malnutrition and little elasticity. At the beginning they are red but with time they change to a pearly white color and can even be purple. They appear in armpits, breasts, abdomen, hips, and thighs.

They are typical of times of physical change as the puberty, pregnancy especially in the sixth and seventh months, the lactation and periods in which we increase and lose weight quickly. Stretch marks can occur in both women and men, one of the most common causes is excess weight.

Care to prevent stretch marks


It is advisable to exfoliate the skin once a week to eliminate dead cells and cream or moisturizing product to penetrate better and obtain better results. Use a brush with natural bristles to apply the dry scrub on the skin in ascending circles towards the heart.

Hydrate the skin on the outside

Hydrate the skin daily by massaging the conflicting areas with moisturizers or you can use specific creams to prevent stretch marks. Milk or almond oil is ideal to prevent them as it is regenerative, lubricant and antioxidant.

Treat and disguise stretch marks

We will continue to exfoliate the skin and moisturize the skin, but if stretch marks already exist, it is better to use a cream or gel specific for stretch marks.

You can resort to natural remedies for the skin like spreading a compress with an infusion of horsetail and let it act about 15 minutes on the skin. Apply oils, rose hip, balsam neem or even vitamin E concentrated directly on stretch marks.

Stretch marks are difficult to remove. Above all, if they are already white, they will need deeper treatments such as a chemical peel with acids or with a laser. Of course, we can disguise with body makeup and self-tanning creams.

Homemade anti-stretch cream . 

Make a homemade balm of calendula, coconut oil, and apricot that prevents the formation of stretch marks by hydrating the skin.

This nourishing and colorless balm calms the discomfort caused by the expansion of the belly skin and prevents the formation of stretch marks, typical of pregnancy or sudden changes in weight. Coconut and apricot kernel oils increase the elasticity and flexibility of the skin, while the wax preserves hydration and has protective properties. Calendula is an antioxidant and has a calming effect.

Ingredients for the anti-stretch cream:

  • 1 teaspoon beeswax
  • 5 teaspoons of coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon of apricot oil
  • 1 teaspoon oil marinated with marigold.

Preparation of the anti-stretch cream:

  • Heat the beeswax with the coco oil, apricot, and calendula in a bowl in the water bath until the wax has melted.
  • Pass it to a sterile glass jar with an airtight seal, let it cool and settle. It may take about 12 hours depending on the ambient temperature.
